Tell us a bit more about Wanderlust Family Retreats!
Wanderlust Retreats are wellness retreats for moms and children that create an environment supporting mamas to show up as their best, allow space to take a break from busy schedules, and just breathe. Our retreats offer a space to reconnect through yoga, mindfulness, farm- to-table food, beautiful nature, and Montessori and Forest school inspired childcare.
That sounds amazing! What inspired you to start your business?
I gave birth to my first child during the heart of the pandemic in 2020 in a foreign country. I went through an entire pregnancy and had a 9-month-old child before I saw my parents. I also experienced birth trauma, grieving the birth experience I had envisioned, and had a difficult postpartum period. All of this led me to search for a space to reconnect with myself and bond with my child. When I realized I couldn’t find what I was searching for, I boldly set out to create it.
How is your business different from the rest? And why is it so important?
We offer retreats focused on moms that also openly welcome children to the experience. You do not have to battle with mom guilt in leaving your child behind, and maybe you can`t if you are breastfeeding or don’t have childcare. Our retreats cater to the bonding experience between mom and child, while also giving moms time to rest and reflect on their journey into this transformational time in their lives.
You’ve described the challenges you faced after having your first child, which are so relatable. What types of challenges do you face now?
The biggest challenge I face is finding balance. I currently have a 3-month-old and a 2-year-old while running my small business and working full time as an engineer. I make conscious decisions everyday to prioritize my connection with my family, carving out space for self-care, and continue to build this business. Some days I feel like a super mom and others I am completely exhausted.
What are you looking forward to for the future of your business?
I am looking forward to us continuing to expand and reach more mothers that are needing an experience like this. We are also continuously building our community on Instagram and have a monthly newsletter with resources related to motherhood, wellness, and family travel.
What’s your best piece of advice for moms reading this?
I read something recently that really hit me hard. For most of our lives, we will know our children as adults. This magical time of watching our children discover the world and who they are in it is fleeting. The connection that we build with them now will ultimately impact our relationship throughout our lives together. This really made me rethink that the days of chaos that the house is a mess, and I haven’t showered might feel crazy, but years from now none of us will remember that. We will remember the laughter and know that these moments were some of the most fun we`ve ever had.
