Hi Andrea! Tell us more about The Hive.
At The Hive we offer custom hand-painted balloon designs, helium bouquets, and beautiful balloon arches and garlands. We are all about creating unique, memorable experiences for any celebrations, no matter the occasion. The Hive is there to help you make it unforgettable.
What inspired you to start your business?
The Hive was born from my love for creativity and crafting, something I’ve been passionate about since I was young. As a mother of two little ones under two years old, I needed to find the perfect balance to show up for my kids while still chasing my professional dreams. The Hive lets me do both.
How is your business different from the rest? And why is it so important?
Like any other balloon business, The Hive aims to elevate your celebrations, but what sets us apart is our commitment to personalization and handmade touches. Each balloon design is unique, so you’ll never have two identical pieces. This special customization allows you to add your own messages, creating decor that you can’t find in stores. Whether it’s a marriage proposal, a first communion, an anniversary, or a birthday party, we’re here to make your event truly one-of-a-kind.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced?
One of the biggest challenges we face is the combination of helium shortages, which makes the gas very expensive, and the global push against single-use plastics. We’re committed to being as environmentally responsible as possible, so we work with the best quality balloon brands to offer longer-lasting balloons arrangements. I always tell my clients our balloons are durable and can be reused for other events or even donated to places where others can enjoy them. This challenge has actually opened up a conversation about being more conscious of how we use these materials, especially latex, and finding ways to make our decorations more sustainable which we love!
What are you looking forward to for the future of your business?
For the future of The Hive, my vision is all about growth. I would love to position our company as the go-to place for all things balloons and party supplies. I envision expanding our offerings to include not just balloons, but a wide range of party essentials that can help clients create unforgettable events. As the company grows, I’d like to build a bigger team—people who are just as passionate about design and creativity as I am. Also creating a community of clients who truly appreciate the care and effort that goes into each piece we make, understanding the value of personalized and handcrafted installations. I want to ensure that every client who walks through our doors or visits our site feels like they’re getting more than just decorations; they’re getting a unique experience tailored to their vision and needs.
What’s your best piece of advice for moms reading this?
For all the moms reading this, my advice is to remember that it’s okay to ask for help. As mothers, we often feel the need to juggle everything ourselves, whether it’s managing our homes, careers, or the endless demands of parenting. But the truth is, we don’t have to do it all alone. There’s real strength in reaching out for support, whether that means leaning on family, friends, or hiring experts in areas where we might not have the knowledge or time. It’s not a sign of weakness—it’s a smart way to ensure that we can focus on what truly matters and maintain our own well-being.
I also believe deeply in the power of community, especially when it comes to supporting small businesses and women-owned businesses. By choosing to shop with and support these businesses, we’re helping to build a network of empowered women who are chasing their dreams just like we are. It’s about creating a cycle of support and empowerment, where we lift each other up and share in each other’s successes. We should all have each other’s backs, because when we come together, we’re stronger.
