I am so excited to introduce Tracy Flaherty, Meditation Teacher, Certified Integrated Nutrition & Lifestyle Coach, and the founder of Zen in Ten. I sat down with Tracy to learn more about what started her on this journey, why meditation is so beneficial to everyone (especially YOU, moms!) and how ten minutes can truly change your life.
Let’s learn more about you! Do you have kids? Where are you from and how long have you lived in town?
I am a native New Yorker born in Brooklyn and raised between Brooklyn and Staten Island. I’ve lived in Midland Park for 20 years and my husband has been a resident since 1985. We love it here.
What is your favorite thing to do with your kids?
At these ages favorite things to do are making dinners together. Hanging by the pool in the summer and trips in NYC to see Anthony. Victoria lives in Hackensack, and I see her often for lunch, shopping and girl time.
Speaking of work, tell us more about your business!
My passions are health, wellness and meditation. I am Certified Health Coach and Meditation Teacher and the creator of Zen in ten. Zen in 10 started out during the pandemic where I would go live for 10 minutes everyday on instagram. The community grew over the course of 2 years and became so much more. I have Zen in 10 T-shirts for purchase that say Share your Shine or Heavily Meditated that are a big hit. I also have a signature scent essential oil roller for on the go de-stressing.
Why is this so important?
I feel like meditation is so needed now especially. It takes us out of our heads and into our hearts. It is an amazing tool to help you calm your mind and release stress.
Meditation allows you to respond and not react to situations in life. It helps in all aspects of your life from easing anxiety, handling our feelings and emotions more evenly and facing any challenges along the way.
What sets you apart?
What sets me apart from other meditation teachers is my ability to meet people where they are. Being genuine and having some fun along the way. Meditation is not about sitting in lotus position and not moving. You have to remember it’s a practice; the more you sit with yourself the easier it becomes.
If you could give one tip to fellow moms, what would it be?
Breathe. Give yourself sometime every morning to have some you time. If you can start a meditation practice that is just 10 minutes a day your life will shift. You can also meditate with your children and give them the beautiful gift of self-love and self-care.
What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I love to sing! In the kitchen, the car, karaoke. Love to sing!
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Community is everything and the heart of what I do. I would not be where I am today if it was not for all the amazing women I have met along the way. My Zen in Ten-meditation tribe is my heart and soul. They are a lovely community with the most kind and generous hearts.
