Meet a Mom: Sarah Goldenthal of Offit Kurman | Bergen Moms Network

Hi Sarah! Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I grew up in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, went to college in Boston and then lived for close to 20 years in New York City. My husband, two kids and I moved to Ramsey in October 2020, which was a big shift for us from city life. We have really embraced the change and enjoy everything our town and the surrounding area has to offer us and our two very active young children.

Do you have any kids?

I have two very cute, silly, sensitive and bright boys, 3 and 5!

What is your favorite thing to do together?

We are master Magna-Tile builders in our house, where we construct anything from a multi-level garage (for our tiny race cars) to a castle or spaceship. Around town and nearby, we enjoy the library, the zoo and the playground to let off all that energy and steam.

Are you involved in a business venture? Please share!

I am a Principal Attorney at Offit Kurman, PA in the Family Law Practice Group. I represent clients throughout New Jersey and New York on all aspects of family law matters, which include custody, parenting time, support, distribution of marital assets, adoptions, prenuptial agreements, and domestic violence.

Why is this so important?

I am extremely passionate and dedicated to my legal work advocating on behalf of families and children.

What sets you apart?

I was initially drawn to work in the family law arena because of my desire to do child advocacy work after teaching in the New York City public school system for several years. My goals in that respect have not changed; rather, they have expanded. In my legal practice, I sometimes represent children in contested custody matters, but in other cases I represent a spouse, parent, fiancé, or even the family member of a child. My cases range from custody-related issues to matters that are purely financial. Whatever the matter, I aim to provide compassionate and individualized, yet zealous advocacy for my clients so that I can meet their individual goals and needs. I bring my background as an educator, a child advocate, a working parent, and a mom into practice when representing my clients.

If you could give one tip to fellow moms, what would it be?

So much of what we do as moms revolves around taking care of others. Do not forget to take care of yourself. If you are facing a family law issue, take care of yourself and get insight from professionals so you can proceed with knowledge, strategy and a clear head. You are not alone.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

The summer before I left for college, I had multiple jobs. I worked as a waitress and in retail, in positions that are typical for teenagers… but my third job, which was a little more unique and unexpected, was one where I was occasionally hired to make appearances as the Little Mermaid for children’s birthday parties.  It was a busy summer juggling multiple obligations while anxiously awaiting the start of college, but I was excited by the challenge of using a variety of skillsets while also having some fun.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

I started my legal career in Bergen County when I started clerking for a Family Court Judge in Hackensack. I made connections professionally and personally here and I fell in love with the area and community so much that in spite of my reverse commute for so many years, I remained dedicated to growing professionally here. I am still close to individuals I developed professional bonds with at the start of my career, whom I now call friends. It was these bonds and everything else this area has to offer that finally convinced my husband and I to leave our city life and lay down our personal roots here. We have been so happy here and we have not looked back.
