Meet a Mom: Michelle Fleischer of Embroidery Babes - Bergen Moms Network

Hi Michelle!  Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I’m originally from Tenafly and have been living in Haworth for the past 6 years. It’s been really special staying close to where I grew up while raising my own family here.

Do you have any kids? What is your favorite thing to do together?

I have an almost 10 and 5 year old. Time really does fly. We love the simple things. Walking around town, stopping into our favorite local spots, and in the summer and fall, heading to street fairs and carnivals. Those moments feel like the kind of childhood memories you hope your kids remember.

Are you involved in a business venture? Please share!

Yes! I’m the founder of Embroidery Babes, where I host modern embroidery workshops designed to help people slow down, unplug, and reconnect. What started as small local gatherings has grown over the past four years to more than 4,000 participants, with features on NBC and FOX.

Why is this so important?

Embroidery started during my infertility journey, which was one of the hardest and most isolating times in my life. I needed something to hold onto, something that felt steady when everything else felt uncertain. Sitting down and stitching gave me that.

I share that story at every single workshop because I remember how alone I felt, and I never want someone else to sit in that feeling. Even if no one says it out loud, there’s always someone in the room who needs to hear it.

What sets you apart?

I focus on making creativity approachable and fun for everyone, even if you’ve never considered yourself “crafty.” My workshops are about the full experience. Connection, conversation, and walking away with something you’re genuinely proud of. Guests leave with clothing or accessories they’ve embroidered themselves, and just as importantly, a hobby they can turn to instead of doomscrolling at night. It’s not about perfection, it’s about how you feel while you’re creating.  That part ends up meaning more than people expect. We also sell DIY at-home kits for crafty gifting or small gatherings.

If you could give one tip to fellow moms, what would it be?

Don’t underestimate the power of taking time for yourself. Even a small creative break or a night out with friends can completely shift your energy and make you a more present mom.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

Before this, I worked in corporate training and HR. This business wasn’t something I had planned. It came out of a really difficult chapter and turned into something incredibly meaningful. Entrepreneurship definitely has its challenges, but building a community around something that once helped me heal makes all of the hard work worth it.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

This community has been everything. From friends showing up to those very first workshops, to local businesses opening their doors, to moms sharing and supporting. It truly takes a village. Watching something that started as a personal outlet grow into a business that has reached thousands of people has been incredibly special, and it wouldn’t have happened without the support right here in Bergen County.
