Meet A Mom: Dana of Pilates Boutique by DTR - Bergen Moms Network

Hi Dana! Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I was born in Dallas, Texas but not long after that we moved to Short Hills, New Jersey. When I was 11 years old, we moved to New York City, and I loved it so much I stayed there till I was 32 years old. It was then we decided to move to Bergen County, and we have been happily living here for about 6 years!

Do you have kids?

I was blessed with two healthy and beautiful daughters who are truly my best friends!

What is your favorite thing to do with them?

We always try to keep our girls busy and outside, so they aren’t glued to the TV! Our activities range from everything from bike riding to arts and crafts, fun shopping trips with mommy, movies with daddy- and of course dancing in the kitchen blasting Taylor Swift!

Are you involved in a business venture? Please share!

I sure am! I own a Pilates Studio, Pilates Boutique by DTR, located in the heart of downtown Wyckoff! founded my first private sessions studio in Ridgewood, guiding clients through tailored workouts, combining classical and contemporary. My newest Pilates Studio, Pilates Boutique by DTR offers a range of classes, with 5 reformers, keeping it intimate and safe. In addition to the classes, we offer private sessions, duet sessions and studio buy outs! If people are short on time, we also offer 30-minute quickie sessions. We have a boutique in our Wyckoff location, supporting local businesses around the area because I really feel it’s important to connect and support small businesses. In addition to our local partners, we are also a strategic partner with Lululemon and carry them in our boutique!

Why is this so important?

My ultimate goal is to empower clients to feel strong, beautiful and confident. I always want our clients leaving the studio feeling not only like they got the best work out, but mentally feeling empowered and that they can take on the day. Pilates is so essential to sculpting the body, lengthening and toning as well as enhancing posture and mobility.

What sets you apart?

Discovering Pilates during my fitness journey really gave me a different perspective on how I should be feeling during my work outs. I am Classically Peak Certified, which is my foundation. However, I truly love contemporary Pilates and having fun on the reformer, creating a fusion of the two to create a more modern flair for Pilates. All of my instructors have their own style for teaching, but we all have the same goal: empower our clients, make them feel amazing when they leave the studio.

If you could give one tip to fellow moms, what would it be?

I swear by this, and I truly believe in it. Never let your kids fear you, or fear telling you anything. They should feel comfortable coming to you with anything and everything. I always remind my girls, mommy and daddy will never be angry with you for telling us the truth. Period.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you?

Oh no! Is this a trick question? I actually started in the fashion industry and went to school for the business of fashion at Parsons School of Design. I was a stylist and personal shopper for many, many years. I absolutely loved it, but something always brought me back to fitness. It really is my true passion and calling.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

We absolutely love our community, and everyone has been so supportive and routing for us. We have a truly loyal clientele, who have become like family. So many people have reached out and offered to promote us and we couldn’t be more appreciative. I truly believe in paying it forward, so in any way I can help our clients and our community as well, if I can, I will do it!
