At Pom Health, we bring the joys of food into your health. We match patients with high-quality, specialized Registered Dietitians who provide personalized nutritional guidance. From there, our Food Coach team creates customized Pom Plans for each patient (and their families) and offers ongoing support via text message.
Pom Health is designed to be an affordable option for personalized nutrition care – that’s why we work with a patient’s health insurance to cover as much of our services as possible. In fact, over 90% of our patients pay $0 out of pocket for their RD visits. For patients who are in-network, Pom costs just $20/month for an all-access membership, and we confirm with insurance to ensure no surprises. If for any reason coverage changes, we have a risk-free policy where patients are not responsible for any visits already completed.
I’m biased but our dietitians are incredible. They’re trained at some of the top hospitals and graduate programs and have some of the biggest hearts. They’ve really found the right balance of building a relationship with our patients while sticking to evidence-based protocols and the science behind nutrition.
My background is in digital health, where I spent years developing software products to help patients access doctors and specialists through their insurance and understand how to use their benefits. However, I often felt frustrated because it seemed like we were stepping in too late for many patients managing diet-related diseases. This made me question how we could integrate food-as-medicine into healthcare, making it accessible and covered by insurance, just like other treatments.
During this time, my family was personally impacted by diet-related diseases – my mom battled breast and thyroid cancer, my sister was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, and my dad developed type 2 diabetes, all within a short timespan. I watched all three of them use home cooking, spices and condiments, and a lot of trial and error to figure out what worked for them. When they did, it was pure joy, in moments that weren’t the easiest.
We’re a family of home cooks so it was easier for them. I wanted to take some of the magic behind how they found really good, really doable foods and pair that with the best medical professionals out there.
First off, let’s acknowledge that eating well can be really hard! It takes time, money, and effort – things that many of us don’t have. At Pom, we deeply empathize with that challenge, and we’ve designed our services around making it easier for people to eat in a more plant-forward way.
We’re covered by insurance, so for most patients, seeing a Registered Dietitian is often free or very low cost. We’re in-network with Aetna, Cigna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, and United Healthcare. If we’re not in-network, we have a more affordable self-pay option, which gives you access to unlimited weekly visits with your personal dietitian.
Flavor is key to making Pom sustainable. We curate recipes from top chefs and food creators. Right now, we’re loving Giada De Laurentiis’ new platform and are excited about the dishes Jenn from @jenneatsgoood is whipping up – our food coaches are always searching for recipes that match your preferences and needs. I like to say that this isn’t just another meal plan; it’s personal. Patients share photos of foods they like, what their kids enjoy, or their spouse’s favorite dish – all over text, no clunky apps. Our team gets to know your family’s eating habits, ensuring the meal plans are tailored to you and fit seamlessly into your life, including budget, groceries, and even restaurant options.
One of our biggest challenges has been creating meal plans that work for the whole family—especially when each member has different needs, whether it’s allergies, preferences, or health goals. We’ve really honed in on this challenge, and I believe we’re uniquely positioned to help families enjoy one meal together that satisfies everyone. We also started off by focusing on home cooking recipes but we’re now starting to take in more restaurant options, work lunch cafeteria ideas, and of course, snacks for the kids. That said, we’re constantly learning about new asks from our patients, so we’re doing our best to keep up!
We’re really excited about a few things on the horizon at Pom Health. First, we’re thrilled to relaunch our live virtual cooking classes. We’ve partnered with some incredible chefs and experts to make the experience interactive and valuable. The idea is to bring people together to cook alongside a top chef while getting live support and insights from our dietitians and doctors. It’s not just about learning new recipes, but about understanding how these meals can support your unique health goals in a way that’s fun, engaging, and practical for your everyday life. I believe these classes will bring back the joy in cooking, especially for those who may feel disconnected from their kitchen because of dietary restrictions or health concerns.
We’re also excited to continue refining our food platform. We’re working on making it even easier for patients to interact with their dietitians and access personalized meal plans in a seamless way. By improving how we integrate data from patients—whether it’s their dietary preferences, budget, or time constraints—we aim to make our meal planning service even more intuitive and tailored to each family’s lifestyle.
Looking further ahead, our vision as a company is to redesign the healthcare system around food. We want to be at the forefront of the food-as-medicine movement, ensuring that nutrition care is not only available to those who need it most, but fully integrated into the way we treat and manage chronic conditions. I’m optimistic that as awareness grows around the power of food in health, we’ll see more healthcare providers, insurers, and patients embrace this holistic approach.
Ultimately, my vision for Pom Health is to become a trusted resource for families across the country, helping them make food choices that bring joy, healing, and ease into their lives. We’re not just in the business of providing meal plans—we’re here to change the way people think about food and health, making it accessible, enjoyable, and sustainable for the long term.
What’s your best piece of advice for moms reading this?
Moms often bear the responsibility of making sure the family eats well, which can be overwhelming, especially when balancing work, kids’ schedules, and personal health – and the mental load can be exhausting. At Pom Health, we understand how challenging it can be to juggle all of that and still find time to care for yourself.
My advice is to give yourself permission to make things easier. You don’t have to do it all alone, and you certainly don’t need to compromise your own health for the sake of convenience. We’re here to support you by making family meals both enjoyable and nutritious—without the extra stress. We offer meal plans that can satisfy everyone at the table, so you don’t have to cook multiple meals or feel like you’re sacrificing flavor for health. And because our services are personalized to your family’s needs, you can trust that we’re taking into account the foods you already love, making mealtime simpler and more joyful for everyone.
Most importantly, remember that caring for yourself is not selfish. When you take care of your own health and well-being, you set an example for your family. You show them that food is not just fuel, but a source of joy, connection, and healing. We want to help lighten the load for you, so you can focus on what matters most—enjoying time with your family while nurturing everyone’s health, including your own.
